The Drive is the most Down-to-Earth neighbourhood in the City!
On Saturday, March 27th restaurants and cafes on Commercial Drive partnered with BC Hydro Power Smart to celebrate Earth Hour by turning down the lights so guests could dine and drink by candlelight.
In the words of Ben Gardiner at BC Hydro PowerSmart "No other community had a more diverse and cooperative participation than the Commercial Drive businesses in East Vancouver. We will have to work very hard next year if we are to top this."
The participation by Commercial Drive businesses and patrons just reaffirms that this is the neighbourhood to be when you want to enjoy life's simple pleasures — friends, candle light, good food, lively conversation. Does it get any better than that?
Well, yes it does for at least one person. Patrons entered the prize draw at participating businesses and Joe Lucky was the lucky winner of our Commercial Drive Candles and Spa prize package!

“I wanted to participate in Earth Hour and it’s not much fun to sit in the dark at home” said one diner at the Libre Room.
“I forgot that it was Earth Hour but it’s great that the restaurant is participating” said a guest at Me & Julio’s restaurant.
“The response has been really good and we would like to do this more often” mentioned the manger at Stella’s Tap House.
“People really like the intimate feeling of the lower light” said the manager of Federico’s Supper Club, “During Earth Hour we gave the band a break, turned down the lights, and played Michael Jackson’s Earth Song”.
