As I come up to The Flower Box, owned and operated by Sacha Thompson, I can feel the unique creativity permeating with the scent of lilies from outside the doors. The flower petals sprinkled daily along the sidewalk and Figaro, the local celebrity dog, are there to greet me. What a welcome! For 15 years this local gem has been producing and delivering “Unusual Botanical Goodness” seven days a week. With such productions under their belt such as the new Freaky Friday (airing on The Disney Channel), The Flash as well as Super Girl, this Botanical Genius produces arrangements for wine events, Corporate Standing Orders all over the city such as the Pizzeria Sopra Sotto which I currently sit writing this article. Sacha, who loves unique flowers, especially ones she has never seen before, has a daily changing assortment of blooms for all preferences. Her motto when first opening was “Just Work It” and I can honestly support that she is doing just that!
Drawing inspiration from the foliage and blooms themselves, what sets them apart from the typical Florist is their focus on quality and longevity of their product. At least three times a week they attend one of the largest auctions around to procure the freshest, most local, seasonal petals to fulfill even the pickiest of customers. You are welcome to come touch, smell, peruse and create your own arrangements if you know what you're looking for and from what I experienced, they know their customer. They pride themselves on repeat clients and I can see why. Having the pleasure of being there during open hours I was able to witness first hand a customer whom had used them for their wedding before they ceased such events, come in and buy his wife an arrangement for a surprise.
Open seven days a week from 10 am until 6 pm, they don’t offer up just floral items, but they handpick local artisans for jewellery, greeting cards as well as chocolate and perfumes. They boast 90% local flowers and perennials, and I walked away with a Pineapple plant myself which I could not pass up. Prices are quite reasonable for the love and attention you receive, and they know their stuff!
My experience with Sacha and her team was amazing and I will completely return for my floral needs in the future! I can’t forget to mention their pup, Figaro, and his loving nature whom will greet you at the door. Proving her inspiration from the Natural World and her fun and friendly nature, Sacha and The Flower Box is not to be missed!
