The Varadero Cafe is owned and operated by Rigoberto Pena Amauies who spends his time in the kitchen preparing authentic Cuban cuisine for patrons and friends alike. He hails from Guantanamo, Cuba and has been with us in Canada for ten years now. This funky and traditional venue opened up eighteen months ago and has been pleasing taste buds ever since with its laidback seasoning that is typical of its Cuban roots.

Rigo outdid himself with allowing me to sample favourite dishes from the menu and got me excited for things to come in the near future. On Italian Day on the Drive this past summer, he boasts a massive number of sandwiches sold and having the pleasure to taste the Cubano from the menu, I can see why. The Empanadas and Arroz Con Pollo would have to be my favourites and I would highly recommend tasting them for yourself!

Rigo is excited for the new menu launch coming this month which will include five new vegetarian options as well as a Cuban Taco and Burrito Bar for those unable to stay for the entire experience. He is mulling over the option of implementing a Cuban Sandwich Bar! “They know veggie well”, Rigo states of Cubans and their cuisine; I have no doubt he speaks the truth.
