Three of Commercial Drive's Most
Distinct Dining Experiences
For nearly three decades, one hospitality team has been
part of the fabric of Commercial Drive.
Through Havana, The Flamingo Room, and now Violeté, they’ve created three distinct dining experiences, each with its own personality, yet all united by a shared commitment to bringing people together.
Havana has long been a neighbourhood institution, known for its vibrant atmosphere, iconic year-round patio, and Latin-inspired cuisine infused with Pacific Northwest flavours. Inspired by the colours and culture of Old Havana, Cuba, the restaurant has become a place where friends gather, stories are shared, and memories are made. For countless locals, it’s been the backdrop for first dates, family celebrations, weekend brunches, after-work drinks, and unforgettable summer evenings.
But their impact extends well beyond the dining room.

Over the years, the group has become deeply connected to the Commercial Drive community—hosting local organizations and community events at The Flamingo Room, supporting neighbourhood initiatives and youth sports, celebrating Pride, and creating welcoming spaces where people can gather, connect, and celebrate together.
Next door, The Flamingo Room has carved out its own identity as one of the neighbourhood’s most unique late-night destinations. Inspired by the energy of Miami, it combines inventive cocktails, live entertainment, and an eclectic atmosphere while providing a stage for local musicians, performers, comedians, and artists. It’s a place where creativity thrives and community comes together through music, laughter, and shared experiences.

Most recently, the family welcomed Violeté to Commercial Drive.
Named after the violet flower—a symbol of simplicity, love, and warmth throughout Europe—Violeté is inspired by the traditions of Italy and Spain, where meals are meant to be shared. Designed as a warm and welcoming neighbourhood restaurant, it reflects a philosophy that great food is about more than what’s on the plate—it’s about the conversations, friendships, and memories created around the table.
While each restaurant offers something entirely different, they all share a common purpose: creating spaces where people feel welcome.
That philosophy has helped shape not only three successful restaurants, but countless moments of connection within the community.

As Havana prepares to celebrate 30 years on Commercial Drive later this year, it’s a fitting reminder that the neighbourhood’s most enduring businesses are often those that invest not only in exceptional hospitality, but in the people who call Commercial Drive home.
From sunny afternoons on Havana’s iconic patio to late nights at The Flamingo Room and memorable dinners at Violeté Kitchen, these three restaurants continue to reflect what makes The Drive one of Vancouver’s most vibrant and welcoming neighbourhoods.
